The aim of this study was to explore a new intestinal marker, SATB2, in conjunction with CDX2 and CK20 in differential diagnosis of sinonasal adenocarcinomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seven ITACs, 66 non-ITACs, and 1 case of extensive intestinal metaplasia (IM) of the nasal mucosa were included in the study and stained with SATB2, CK20, CDX2, and CK7 antibodies. SATB2 is a transcriptional regulator involved in osteoblastic and neuronal differentiation and is a sensitive and specific marker of colorectal epithelium. This study aimed to evaluate the expression of SATB2 in NNs from various primary sites and its utility as a marker in determining the site of origin of these neoplasms. SATB2 alone or in combination with other proteins can be used as diagnostic biomarker marker for cancer. The expression of SATB2 was also found to activate β‐catenin pathway which is highly activated in most cancers.

Although SATB2 is not specific for osteosarcoma, it has the potential to be a useful adjunct in some settings, particularly in the distinction between hyalinized collagen and osteoid.

Satb2 is a DNA-binding protein that regulates chromatin organization and gene expression. In the developing brain, Satb2 is expressed in cortical neurons that extend axons across the corpus callosum. To assess the role of Satb2 in neurons, we analyzed mice in which the Satb2 locus was disrupted by insertion of a LacZ gene. In mutant mice, β-galactosidase-labeled axons are absent from the Satb2 is colocalized with specific layer markers in the neocortex. (A‐A″′) Double immunostaining of Satb2 (green) and Brn2 (red) in the layers II–III shows that most of Satb2‐positive cells are also Brn2‐positive (arrows), but there are a few cells labeled with only Satb2 (double arrowheads) or Brn2 (arrowheads).
